The project intends to create a better understanding of the methodological and technical issues regarding CDM as well as their practical application, to identify the emission reduction potentials of possible CDM activities in China and its roles in the world carbon market, and wants to enhance the capacity building for China in participating in CDM.

The international experts provided by INTEGRATION are supporting the Chinese Expert Team with technical know how on the CDM methodology and rules as well as on the case studies in the field of power generation.

The objectives of the support aim at:

  • Better understand methodological and technical issues regarding CDM in order to provide technical advise to the development of the methodology guidelines for CDM.
  • Build up experiences in CDM methodologies through typical case studies in the selected sectors based on the special circumstances in China, with a view of establishing a project pipeline of feasible CDM and of preparing potential CDM project proposals.
  • Understand Certified Emission Reductions (CER) demand and supply potentials and their geographical distribution in future CDM carbon market, and their technology requirement, trends of CERs price, in order to identify China's CERs supply potentials, its share and impacts in the world CDM carbon trading market.
  • Identify the requirement for advanced technologies to be imported and demonstrated through CDM cooperation in accordance with sustainable development objectives and targets of China and CDM additionality criteria, proposing technology option list in the selected sectors.

An additional Study Tour with site visits (e.g. Co-generation, Tri-generation, Wind energy blade factory) and meetings with governmental and non-governmental institutions was carried out by INTEGRATION in Germany and Switzerland in September 2002.
