With the rapid development of the Chinese economy, the prevention of environmental pollution becomes more and more a main topic. Therefore the local government of the City of Tianjin has declared, that the practical implementation of environmental management standards is an important objective of the environmental policy for the Tianjin Region.
Especially for local enterprises the international accepted ISO 14001 standard is a helpful instrument to build up an environmental management system. The project was implemented under the roof of the Environment Protection Bureau (EPB) of the City of Tianjin.
It was the aim of the project to inform the industrial decision makers about the new instruments of an efficient environmental management. To give more practical help in the field of implementation the ISO 14000 standards the project was focussing on capacity building.
The German team leader and his staff were advising and supporting their counterpart - the Tianjin Academy of Environmental Sciences (TAES) - in designing training materials. With "train the trainer activities" the project gave an contribution to improve the education for the internal auditors. Another main task of the project was to develop and provide sector-specific guidelines for the implementation of environmental management systems in small and medium sized enterprises.

- "Guideline for the Implementation of ISO 14.000 in the Chinese Automobile Industry and their Suppliers"
- "Environmental Management in the Chinese Chemical Industry: Guidelines for the Implementation of ISO 14.000"
- "Environmental Management in the Chinese Electronic Industry: Practical Information to Continuously Improve Environmental Management"
- "Guideline for Implementing Environmental Management Systems in Chinese Administrations and Service Companies"
