The purpose of the project is to enhance the utilization of locally available renewable energy (RE) resources, mainly solar energy, hydropower and wind, and to strengthen market-driven mechanism for RE dissemination in urban and rural areas. The project contributes also to strengthen the market driven mechanisms for the dissemination of Renewable Energy applications in rural as well as in urban areas.

The project focuses on

  • the creation of more efficient framework conditions for RE,
  • the provision of advisory services to private enterprises on the manufacture and marketing of RE technologies and

Key measures are to assist

  • the Ministry of Infrastructure (MoI) in its institutional development and in developing a national strategy for RE and
  • the selected counterpart, the Renewable Energy Corporation (REC), in project implementation and capacity building, so that REC graduates to a clearinghouse and communication center for RE issues.

Main activities include:

  • Advisory assistance to manufacturers of RE systems
  • Support provided to the Ministry of Infrastructure for improving the framework conditions of RE
  • Training and development of counterpart staff
  • Visits to investment fairs and international conferences in Asia/ Europe
